Food poisoning cases have been reported across the country, starting with two families in Hyogo and Chiba prefectures, who reported getting sick after eating frozen gyoza imported from China. Currently, over 1,000 people have reported feeling dizzy and nauseous, along with other symptoms after eating gyoza. Investigators detected large amounts of an illegal pesticide in the product packaging but the Chinese company, Tianyang Foods based in Hebei Province, insists that the pesticide is not used in its production facility. Small holes were found in the package in the Hyogo case, possibly indicating someone had tampered with the product after it left the factory. Authorities from China's food quality control agency arrived in Tokyo on Sunday, February 3rd, to meet with Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry officials to compare notes and reach a 'scientific conclusion' about the tainted products.
